I have killed my DM41X

Post by Dan Simpson »

I have DM41X Beta SN:00040.

Today I was changing my active module configuration and got a blank screen after pressing ENTER.
The Calculator would not respond to keystrokes at this point. I pressed the reset button and got no response.
I removed and replaced the battery and it seemed to boot up. After pressing ON to continue and setting the time and date I got the following screen:

Again, the Calculator would not respond to keystrokes.
Not being able to get into USB Mode, I used dfu-util to re-flash the firmware.
I got all the correct responses from dfu-util as shown in the manual but now I get this:
2020-11-26 18.44.03.1290.jpg

with no response from the keyboard or the reset button.

There is a 2nd button on the board, near the reset button but not accessible from the outside (i.e. you must open the case) which should put the device back into f/w update mode. Connect the cable and get the update s/w ready, then press this 2nd button and start the update, it should proceed and complete the update. And even though you're connected via USB, I'd insert a new battery if available.

I did use the second button to get into bootloader mode. That is how I was able to use dfu-util to re-flash the firmware. I tried it with and without a battery installed. Both times dfu-util indicated a successful flash but with the same result. But I think i see a problem.

In the manual,

Code: Select all

Downloading to address = 0x08000000, size = 756288
but in my case:

Code: Select all

Downloading element to address = 0x08000000, size = 287
My downloaded firmware file was corrupted. I did not notice that at first. All is OK now.
