Upgraded keypad

Post by tgray »

Congrats on the release of the DM41x. Personally I’m not particularly interested as the DM42 is wonderful - I never used any of the original HP calcs so I’m not attached to any specific model.

However I did notice the new DM41x has an upgraded and improved keypad. Will a retrofit be available for first run DM42s?

Yes. We're not yet sure exactly what it will include because we're looking at multiple options depending on how technically savvy people are (it's not as simple as just swapping out a piece of plastic somewhere) and we're fixing various dead links on the website first, so it won't be available for a few weeks yet.

But yes, there will be something to allow users of older gen keyboards to improve them.

Do new DM42 units that are shipping today include an upgraded keypad?

Awesome!! Which space should I observe to stay in the loop? This forum? The SwissMicros website? A Newsletter? Something else?

How do I know if I have an old or a new keyboard? My DM42 has serial number 05370, is that sufficient information to tell?

I just got my DM41X and the new keyboard is indeed a huge improvement.
However, unfortunately the XEQ key doesn't always work. When I press it lightly, I can make it click without the keystroke registering. Pressing it a little harder works, though. All the other keys are working perfectly.

Should I send the calculator back or is there something I can try to fix it first?
I don't mind taking it apart, but I don't want to void the warranty just yet. :-)

EDIT: I got impatient and just cleaned under the metal domes, and now everything works fine.

I just got my new DM42. Shipped on Sept. 16 and received in Arizona on Oct. 3.

I got the updated keyboard! :) The printing on the keys looks bigger and there is a nice texture on the keys.
The key action definitely feels different. I have had no skipped key presses after just a few minutes of playing around.
I will report back after I put it into regular use for a while.

It looks good so far.

Are the characters on the keys painted bright yellow rather than orangish as displayed on this site? Thank you!
