Upgraded keypad
Re: Upgraded keypad
Indeed, I made a note to find isopropyl alcohol for when I receive the replacement domes.
Re: Upgraded keypad
Just a quick note to thank SwissMicros team (well, Mickael Steinmann in fact) who has quickly cancelled my order after I ask him to, and refunded me immediately, just because I forgot to use the free shipping code when I ordered the replacement foil (Yes, I am a drag... it is not like it is not written all over the place when you order...)
Kudos !

Re: Upgraded keypad
Is there a DM42 serial number (or purchase date) after which the domes do not need to be changed?
DM42 SN00284 & SN03835 running C47, HP34C, HP41CV, HP42S, HP35s, WP34S, HP Prime
Re: Upgraded keypad
The first line on the order page is
"This foil is only needed for DM42 prior 2020 with buttons that do not register well."
The impetus for the development of the new domes was the release of the DM41X Beta's.
So much feedback about bad keyboard response from the first 100 users.
I have a DM42 s/n 3108, purchased in 2020, and a second, purchased shortly after the change with s/n 6084.
Actually, my production DM41X and new DM42 arrived in the same box from Swissmicros.
So I am going to arbitrarily suggest that any s/n below 6000, could benefit from the new domes.
and any beta DM41X.
I orders 2 sets, for the older DM42, and the beta DM41X.

Re: Upgraded keypad
The serial number is NOT an indicator to go by, except only in the broadest sense (e.f. s/n 0045 is much older than s/n 6544). They are not shipped in SN order for a variety of reasons, so date is your best guidance here. That said, I'll try to get a more specific date where the cut-over occurred.

Re: Upgraded keypad
I did say arbitrary.
I looked up my order date, 2020/09/28 around 1400 Eastern US time.
The announcement email for the DM41X was 2020/09/27.
Bob, that should give you a target to search for.

Re: Upgraded keypad
You did indeed, though I missed it, sorry. IIRC, the batch of DM42's w/new Kbd came in together with the 41X arrival, but need to check with Michael to be sure. (He's not here much as he's probably the busiest guy in Switzerland).
But I'd say ctrclckws' date of end of September 2020 is a solid date to use unless/until an absolute order cut-off date becomes available.

Re: Upgraded keypad
The answer below the youtube video sais its not for improving the tactile feeling. I think I order one for my DM41 beta, it has some keys you have to press really hard to register.redglyph wrote: ↑Wed Aug 31, 2022 10:31 amHere is the video explaining how to replace the foil:

We should get them in a few weeks.
Isn't that the same? Older keys were not registering or were registering twice. There were a few attempts to fix the problem on the DM42 but they were not satisfactory.
They finally replaced the domes with more clicky ones to reduce this problem on new models and on the DM41X, or at least that's how I understand it. Let's hope it's not too uncomfortable but we'll see, it's better than an unreliable keypad.
