I am not sure where this post belongs...
I have been using My DM41X quite frequently with my 82240B Printer.
Today my printhead decided to catch the paper on fire.
I have been using this printer quite reliably with my DM42 for about a year.
Is this bad luck/timing or is there something in the DM41X that could have caused this?
This happened when the program that I was running attempted to print.
It just printed solid black and the sat at the EOL with the heaters on full blast.
Pushing the advance button printed another line the same way.
I power cycled the printer and it came back on but does not print anymore.
I have located a replacement Seiko mechanism.
I hope this was just the failure of an elderly printer...

Re: HP 82240B Printer Failure
This is just unfortunate/coincidental timing. The DM42and DM41X uses standard "red-eye" IR (actually it's called ASK IR for Amplitude Shift Keying) and there is no possible error in the frames sent that could lead the printer to do that. In theory, this is not supposed to be possible (to heat the paper to the point of catching fire) but this is not the first one Ive heard of that has done this. It is definitely not frequent, but has happened before. I've no real facts, but it's very unlikely you did anything wrong, just simple parts failure.
