Re: DM42 Shift-key wear:
Very recent DM42s had the improved DM41X-style keyboard with the softer and generally more consistent key-click,
I guess the word "improved" is relative. I like the clickier feel of the older keyboard and after flexing the keys, have no trouble with them registering at all. Plus I like the yellow key being molded in color. I'll never wear off the color. My DM41x, OTOH, feels like mush and the yellow paint disappeared quite a while ago. Interestingly, the blue key doesn't seem to have that problem. I hope the color problem, at least, is solved before the 41x leaves beta status.

The 41X production keyboards will have different domes than the beta machines, less "hard" to press and a somewhat gentler click, and should have far fewer false-positives where you feel a click but the key doesn't register.

Also, the Yellow Shift and Blue Alpha keys are solid in those colors, not painted as the beta units were (which was only temporary). It is odd that the wear of the blue and yellow keys was so drastically different. Essentially every single yellow key's paint wore off very quickly, yet I've not heard of a single blue key wearing enough to notice, and the manufacturer stated they were processed the same way. I think he was either not fully informed or not fully forthcoming, but it's a moot point since you can't wear the color off of the production keys.

Can't wait! I don't suppose the new key matrix will be available separately, will it? I know the domes would be the same old domes but the keys would look nicer.

As I use my DM42 and my DM41X(beta), I see the nice, solid yellow shift key on my DM42 and then I see my poorly painted yellow key on my DM41X. Clearly my micro-painting skills were not up to the task after the original yellow paint wore off the yellow shift key. I am wondering if there is any hope for obtaining a solid yellow shift key for my DM41X in the future? If so, possibly before the end of 2020? It would be a bright spot in an otherwise, rather dismal year. Thanks for any updates. By-the-way, any idea when the DM41X will be released to full production with solid color shift keys?

It won't be long now before the DM41X production units are available Just a few weeks if things still go to plan.

Great news on the production release!

But I might be interested in an “upgrade kit” for my beta unit. Any plans in that direction?

You said a few weeks from Sept 12th, so it means we can order a DM41X by end of next week ? :D
