Free42 3.05 - Error with names of variables

Post by mcc »

Hi,

(recognized with the Android version)

if I create a variable "A" (uppercase) and a variable "a" (lowercase) and press RCL then, the
menu bar shows "A" and "A" (both uppercase).

Works the same with other letters and longer names.

Cheers!

This is how the HP-42S shows variable names: in uppercase.

So, a good variable naming convention will help you keep track of things.

The DM42 has a different screen than the HP-42S and uses a different font for the soft keys, while Free42 sticks to the HP-42S pixel font. See this post from Thomas about this topic.

Walter pointed out that the WP34S manual shows a character set that contains lowercase letters that fit within the constraints of the HP-42S / Free42 menu labels. I took a look and I was pleasantly surprised, I think the letters look excellent. I'm adding them to Free42 and Plus42; updated Plus42 builds containing these new glyphs are at https://thomasokken.com/free42/download/test/.

Speaking of Plus42, I just installed the Windows version and it appears to be identical to Free42 with the two-line display. Is the eight-line display not yet implemented, or is there some setting that is used to activate it ?

The big display is not yet implemented. Plus42 is a work in progress; expect substantial updates later this summer...

Thanks. I figured that was it, but just thought I’d ask in case I was missing something. For anyone else who might be interested, the state file from Free42 can be used with Plus42 by copying it to the Plus42 appdata folder and changing the extension from f42 to p42.
