The command steps are correct, except there should be 0, 0 before the 25, since SIZE prompts for 4 digits. so then:

[Shift] [+/-] [▼] [Σ+] [0] [0] [2] [5] [ENTER]

The [Σ+] is the way you 'press' the [SIZE] button in the menu on a real 42S and Free42, but on a DM42 you press the button above the [Σ+].

If you're going to enter four digits, you should leave off the [ENTER]... You can enter fewer digits than the prompt asks for and then finish the command by pressing [ENTER], that saves one keystroke in this case.

Thanks Thomas.

Good news - I never knew (or completely forgot) you could use [ENTER] after entering fewer than the number of prompted digits, so I learned something new about the 42S, something I thought ceased long ago... yet continues to this day

Bad news - I just discovered my original 42S purchased at launch now has the weakened rubber strip below the keyboard contacts, requiring pressure under the LCD for some keys to function. I have other 42S machines, but this was the original... sigh...

That is unfortunate! Is it fixable?

Yes, it's fixable, I've already repaired a few Pioneers with the same issue (42S, 22S) but it requires to open the case which is not manufactured for that. There are several ways to do it anyway, either from the front by removing the keyboard overlay, or from the back by cracking open the posts on the bottom of the keyboard. I used the later method which requires some time and to apply force on the right spots but I was not confident in my ability to correctly remove and reapply the keyboard overlay without visible damages.

That doesn't sound like something for the faint-hearted!
But it's good to know it is possible, at least. I had the impression it was basically impossible to put the calculator back together perfectly after that kind of surgery, so I was dreading the day my trusty 42S would start to act up. (I hasn't, not yet 🤞)

If you do it carefully you can snap back the two halves of the case together and the posts will still hold them closed.
On the Pioneers I've repaired the only sign they have been opened are the four posts in the battery compartment whose heads are slightly shaved to open the top of the case.

If you remove too much of the head of these posts you can still use small screws to maintain the case closed.

Opening a Pioneer case is a bit like opening an HP 48 case, both are closed with heat stakes and are not designed to be easily repairable, but it's feasible. And both share the same keyboard contact issue as they use the same flexible circuit contact method to connect the keyboard traces to the mainboard.
