... it only happens when battery powered. The battery meter on the calculator shows that it's fine 🤷 any suggestions?
What does 'fine' mean in volts? (I once thought this is a technical forum ... )
Keith is a physics teacher. I'm sure he is able to ascertain what voltage range is "fine" himself.
Certainly. But he asked us for suggestions. I can hardly help if I don't even know the simple facts.

A fair point.

I checked it again this morning It drops to 2.17V when first turned on (that's the lowest I've seen it drop) and quickly recovers to 2.77V. the battery indicator shows four of the five bars, and 2.77V seems fine to me. Not seen it drop as low as 2.17V before.

Anticipating your next question, it's a cheap Maxell battery (which has been in the calculator for over a year now, I think), so I'll try a different one and see if the situation improves.

The problem has gone away. It was a battery problem. The new battery solves the problem. I should have thought of that first, it's not the first time I've been tricked by a cheap battery.

... and now you know why fine isn't fine enough. ;)

(One of the first books I remember having read asked questions like: How big is big? )

Joking aside, any company that wants to trade within the EU has to abide by it.
There are only 10 kinds of people in the world: those who understand binary and those who do not.

not only to trade but also to monitor the behaviour of individuals within the EU (Data protection under GDPR).
So all EU residents are covered by the GPDR whether the business dealing with them is inside the EU or outside.

Let's hope our friends in the USA and China are aware of this.
