The Idle 3rd soft key

Is there any plan for the idle 3rd soft menu key?
If there is no current plan, I would suggest that it become universally user definable- so that the user can assign an unshifted assignment to anything that could normally be assigned to the custom menu.
Of course, I would make it open the existing custom menu with a single keystroke. My current custom menu is used a lot, and is by now quite deep and complex, so taking out one keystroke for every custom operation will make life that much easier.
In my opinion, the same could be done with the 4th, volume key as well, since it is used only rarely (by me), and move the volume setting to a more obscure location.
Any other thoughts?
