DM42 - Menu CLEAR question

Post by Dani R. »

I had tried to reproduce the keyboard input bug (which didn't occur with my extra fast calculating beta calculator).
In this context I searched for CLX and discovered the following behavior in DM42 and Free42, which is logical.

If I'm still typing digits, the delete key deletes the last digit. If I want to delete the whole number, I need CLX. CLX is in the CLEAR menu. If I call the CLEAR menu, however, then the number input is finished (, same as pressing EXIT, ). If I now press the delete key, it behaves like CLX, because the number input is finished. The CLEAR menu still remains active because none of the function keys (CLST, CLX etc.) was pressed. Since I don't have a real HP-42S, the question is here.

Does the real HP-42S behave like this (logically)? Or is the number input not finished when opening the CLEAR menu?

That is how the real HP-42S behaves.

Thanks for checking. From this point of view CLX is needed in the menu to delete the menu again. I think I'll get used to the shortcut with the EXIT button.

It's also needed in case you want to enter CLX in PRGM mode

I absolutely agree, you expect CLX in the CLEAR menu, and you get it there too. Alternatively you can get CLX into a program via XEQ ALPHA "CLX" or CATALOG FCN. Assigned to CUSTOM would also work, but is very cumbersome because of the behavior of the cursor keys.

Funny fact which only affects DM42. With the CLEAR menu open you can execute XEQ ALPHA "CLX" because of the additional keys. The menu will of course not be deleted.
