DM42 - display contrast

Post by Frank.upn »

Hello,

somehow I'm too stupid to adjust the display contrast (is a bit too dark).
Can someone give me a short help?

Thank you

Hi there.

I'm afraid there is no LCD contrast adjustment on the DM42.
There are only 10 kinds of people in the world: those who understand binary and those who do not.

Thank you!

Searched Homepage, Quick Reference Guide and Forums to find the display contrast setting.
Unfortunately, nowhere is it mentioned that contrast adjustment is not feasible
(It is possible with the HP-42s :) )

With the HP 42s, you would adjust it by holding down ON and pressing + or -
I don't think Free42 has multi-button support so I'm not surprised the DM42 can't either. I confess I can't really see what would be gained by adjusting the contrast.

I suppose the question remains why your display is "too dark", since the contrast on these displays is generally very good when viewed in well-lit conditions, certainly better than the contrast on the old HP-42S and similar two-line display Pioneer models, which wasn't that great.

Hi,

this is highly speculative but ...

IF (big IF) you use your DM42 and the display does face the boue sky it MAY (big MAY) happen, that a greater amount of polarized light
may (big MAY) hit it and gets NOT reflected by the rear of the LCD.
This is because LCD works with polarizing filters.
IF (big IF) this happens, turning the DM42 around the normal of the glass surface will fix that problem.

Normally indoors this effect is much smaller than outdoors.

Cheers! (big CHEERS! :) :) :) )

I can confirm that.
I'm satisfied with the DM42 display and did not want to get rid of any complaints here.

I am certainly spoiled by the very good HP10bII+ display that I use daily (for simple calculations, markup, etc.; unable to calculate properly %).
Continue daily the HP 17bII+ (for %, STAT and Solver) and the Sharp w506 (for non-financial calculations; unable to calculate properly %) :)
