I think he was referring to this.

And this:
Force manual RESET after flashing

Straight after flashing firmware, you now have to press the RESET button on the rear of the calculator. While this may seem like a step backwards, the fact of the matter is that a software-induced reset doesn't clean things up as efficiently as a hardware reset.

I had to press the RESET button twice. I used dfu-util on Linux for a change (because I hadn't tried it before, having previously used dm_tool on Windows and Linux). I pressed the RESET button once after dfu-util finished flashing the firmware. Then a message was displayed telling me to press the RESET button, so I did it again. Apart from that minor confusion, all went well.

Thank you very much for the hints.
I wondered that I had to reset the DM42 two or three times, and always to have to format the USB disk and restore the contents.

I have not yet updated to v3.3. I am using dm_tool on Windows 7. Just so I don’t screw up, should I expect the calculator to prompt me for a paperclip RESET after flashing is completed instead of pressing EXIT ? Does it matter if the computer has not disconnected from the calculator ?

Yes, the DM42 will prompt you to reset via paperclip. I do not believe it matters if the cable is connected or not. After the reset, you will see the version splash screen, from which you exit via the exit key as normal.

Hi,

Jupp!

I updated via dfu-util under linux, which work wothou problems the last update.
This works also flawlessly from dfu-utils point of view.
But I had problems to reset my DM42.
I opened the back and pressed the reset button by hand and it works...but I
think the time to get the screws out and the back opened was the deciding factor
here.
The hang killed quite some power of the CR2032 -- in comparision of the nothing, what
my DM42 consumes under normal circumstances...about 0.7V.
Or does the calculation/measurement algo of the battery watchere has changed with
this update?

Cheers
Meino

I too had the same issue - not sure exactly what was the issue, but after carefully running inf-wizard (as administrator)
and DM tool (again as administrator), things are now fine!!!

What a fine frickin' machine!
[Btw, stopped by Bill and Daves offices yesterday]

It happened again! I updated my production unit then I had to run inf-wizard.exe again to update the USB driver before DM Tool would see my Beta unit. My Beta and Production units have different USB hardware IDs. Both units work fine after the update so I know it worked OK for both.

Smooth update from 3.1 to 3.3 as usual. Just the required manual RESET is annoying from my point of view.
