UPDATE: DMCP-3.22 / DM42-3.20

This is where announcements of official firmware updates provided by SwissMicros for the DM42 calculator will be made.

Please do not post bug reports here. The Usage tips, tricks and problem reports forum is there for that.

Please do not post notices of third party firmware builds here, they will be deleted. Instead, please use the Third Party firmware builds forum for this purpose.

If you want to downgrade (which is safe, if done properly) then be sure to use the combo DMCP+DM42 f/w images, most easily done with the dm_tool utility, which guarantees you are installing the proper matching DMCP and DM42 applications. Mixing apps and DMCP versions not intended to work together can lead to... well, unsatisfying circumstances.

@Didier & Bob.
Thanks so much to both of you!

edit:
I reverted to DMCP_flash_3.21_DM42-3.18.bin and checked the battery voltage display behavior,
reported at viewtopic.php?p=21537#p21537 by peet.
Result: same behavior, so it's definitly not caused by DMCP-3.22 / DM42-3.20.

Thanks for the help!

I have observed the same behaviour.
However, it gives you an advantage: If you perform an operation on the DM42 that causes a heavy current drain on the battery and then reverts to a low current state of the calculator where the voltage indicator i visible, you can thereby get an impression of the state of your battery before the voltage indicator reverts to low current drain voltage.

do you mean: "It's not a bug, ... it's a feature"?

I simply mean, that you can take advantage of this behaviour, whether it is a bug or not.
We better ask Michael for an explanation.

Done (I have asked).
They could not find an error, and the mentioned downgrade to the previous release confirmed this.

Nevertheless, for me it remains a phenomenon that the voltage displayed
just rises again at the minute change, after each repeated call from 'Setup' & exit
dropped the (displayed) voltage by a small amount.

But we can end the guesswork, I suspect there will be no new findings.

There is another possibility: That the bug/issue/phenomenon/problem is a design flaw in the ST Microelectronics microcontroller. If so, there is very little we can do.

PS: According to SwissMicros, the DM41X uses the same microcontroller and hardware as the DM42.
Is the issue also present in the DM41X?

The 41x can not show the voltage. But it seems so. During the beep, the battery indicator on my 41x loses a bar, which then reappears.

The software could ignore readings that lasted for less than a fixed interval of time so transients like this wouldn't show up.

Hi,
is this a bug? I Am trying to save a program and in the UI screen of adding a filename I do not see letters on soft-menu buttons, just empty rectangles.

Code: Select all

FW: DMCP v.3.22, DM42 v3.20
