Thomas, what are the chances we will see four stack levels when using Free42 in the future?

I'm not planning that feature in Free42, but it will be in Plus42, which I'm hoping to have ready for release before the summer.

I think so! Yes to seeing all four levels in Plus42, the souped-up Free42 fork I'm currently working on; no to seeing all four levels in Free42 itself.

Thomas, you were perfectly clear. I can’t wait for Plus42.

Yes. we, who wrote programs, managing all stack in mind, are dinosaurs (Hello Walter). It is hard to accept changing concepts of our most loved tools. For me, the great example is HP Prime. Great, powerful and useless. I cannot use this in everyday work, because it does not have the solidity of 48-50g model. Why do I need two mode for numbers and CAS, with different case letters in formulas and so on? This machine not for me, who wants to make straight way to get result. It for students, who do exams with respect to governing rules. Why do students need machine with so much potential and speed? Are they doing a real calculus with Prime? No they do not. Just simple homework tasks. And what should I use? The toy for scouts? Can we hope to get real great devices which are connecting the approved design and engineer solutions of past models with the power of modern processors and memory? DM42/Free42 are one of the last good attempts. Thomas added unlimited stack. I really want to be this thing in DM42. Not for just to be in principle. DM42 is my device of choice in work and I really love to have unlimited stack there like the special mode. It is discussable how much stack registers enough to be displayed on screen, especially when somebody has long experience with one register X, and now has option to see five at once. Let the project grows like child and becomes more powerful and versatile staying balanced in usability. This device is not for schoolwork at first. It is for those who pretend on to be an engineers. Maybe sometime we see the evolution of this project to became as fast as Prime and as solid as 50g, keeping ability to be 42 )
I really worry that on some point this project can stop evolution just for the reason that original HP42s did not have some functions Free42 has or would have in future.

Thanks Thomas, this is a wonderful feature and the backward compatibility story, as well as its overall integration within Free42 was very well thought through. Flawless. This convinced me to get a DM42!

I can't wait to play with plus42 (I found binaries, but no source code, are you planning to release it soon ? [it being GPL, I'm assuming you intend to in the future])

The Plus42 source code is in the same GitHub repository as Free42; just select the "plus" branch.

Not much activity there in recent weeks... I have been busy with some personal matters. Hoping to get back into a nice working rhythm soon. I'm particularly eager to finish the equations feature, I have a hunch that everything else I have planned will be easy compared to that. :D
