DM 42 keyboard

Post by mobi323 » Sun Oct 04, 2020 6:59 am

How do I store an Alpha String?
The DM 42 manual says that ASTO, ARCL, % and a couple of others are not available from Alpha keyboard and that I should use the HP-42S keyboard. But as soon as I go out of the ALPHA keyboard the string that I wish to store disappears.
I'm sure the fix is simple but I just cannot figure it out.

You have to select the original HP-42S Alpha input mode with [Shift] [Up] or [Shift] [Down] while still being in Alpha input mode. ASTO, ARCL, % and a couple of others functions are not available when the DM42 lower case or upper case input modes are selected because in these modes the keyboard is redefined to provide direct access to the Alpha characters.
This is explained in the section 3.5. Alpha Input Mode of the DM42 manual.

Thank you. I was going all the way out of the Alpha keyboard. When all I needed to do (as you pointed out) was stay in the Alpha keyboard but use the Shift + Up or Down to get to the situation where the [A] indicator changes to [ ].
