Firmw update issue on Windows 10

Post by cappy »

Hi

I haven't updated the FW in a while, and I'm now using a Windows 10 laptop (not my choice).

I've installed libusb and the virtual COM port driver.

When I click Program in the DM tool the screen never shows the STM micro.

Are there special instructions for updating Fw on Windows 10?

thanks

When you install the drivers under Windows-10, you must first disable driver signing enforcement, otherwise the driver installation does not properly complete installation, even though there were no errors.

This web page explains how to disable signed driver enforcement:

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/wi ... igned.aspx

Follow those steps (it looks complex but it really isn't) and after rebooting, reinstall the drivers. After doing so, dm_tool should see your DM42 w/o problems.

Good luck, and please report results once completed.

Which firmware are you on at the moment? Is it recent enough to handle firmware updates using the FAT disk update method?

The drive doesn't show up on my system, so I thought I needed to install the com port driver and libusb.
The user's manual is still confusing regarding the FW update procedure. FW updates never go smooth for me.

I've done that, but dmtool still shows "Device Not Ready"

Installing libusb is successful though ( I think it was also successful before turning off signing, as I saw the .inf file after running the installer)

The steps leading up to running dmtool are what is confusing though.
Do I need to press F!/Reset for dmtool to see the DM42??

On the DM42, you need to press:

Shift-Setup-5-2-2

to put the device into Bootloader mode.

If already connected to the PC via cable when you do this (you should be), you should hear the <bong> sound, announcing that the system recognizes the device. Then run DM_tool and you should be OK.
