My first real images

Post by 48GX »

I made these using Photoshop for the 1-bit conversion.

Solar eclipse from August 21, 2017 and a photo of the plane on the beach in Iceland.

Nice shots! Is photoshop unable to produce a proper black?

Thank you, Walter.

I'm working on finding out. I can only delete pixels and not fill with black in 1 bit. I'm going to work on it. I use macOS and I wish there was an app that allowed a true 1-bit conversion with dithering adjustability.

**Update** I have figured out a way. Once you go to BMP, go back and then edit and then go back to BMP. Will post updates to photos to show progress.

I'm definitely not a PS expert and to be fair, the original image has a lot of white in it around the sun. Here is an updated image. I used a THRESHOLD layer (Image > Adjustments > Threshold > 50 <- What makes sense) to get blacks and whites sorted and then converted down to BMP and finally resizing at the end.

This time I painted in pure black into the sun. Same process as above. Different image with smaller corona.

A Threshold layer only makes sense in some instances. All of these photos use the Threshold layer.

La dame de fer (Eiffel Tower).

I find it best to resize the image right before converting to BMP.

No use of Threshold layer.

Capt. Jeff Kuss of the Blue Angels on April 16, 2016. He would pass away in a fatal crash on June 2, 2016. Less than two months after this photo was taken.

Story here.

Fanad Head Lighthouse, Ireland.

Lost of contrast and the closer the better (in most circumstances for the photos I shoot) tend to work better for me.

Thanks! As you've found out yourself, some intelligence in front of the computer is inevitably necessary to achieve optimum converted pictures. Best setting depends on the pictured scene.
