Dutch Lion

For the Dutch amongst us. (No problem if you are not Dutch and you like it)
Nice! It sort of reminds me of the Bavarian Lion. That must be a common pose for symbolic lions.

In a way, yes: there are English lions, Czech (Bohemian) lions, Hessian lions, etc. all like posing showing all their legs

The one in the middle but without the sword and other attributes
I guess nobody ever saw a lion in the time they created it so all countries more or less copied each other.
Feel free to call it a bavarian or other lion

The Lion could IMHO simply be seen as an image of strength / nearly absolute power.
The ferocious animal was depicted deliberately in an unnatural, upright attack-position
with exaggerated large fangs to underline and signal without doubt:
Beware, here comes someone of dangerous power !
Additionally, this upright position is easier to recognize from afar than a horizontal lion
while wearing an helmet or watching across a (battle-)field.
The open throat of these animals stands for aggressiveness.
The tongue stuck out is just as much a sign of resistance as the bared teeth,
the sharp beak or the extended claws are.
Since a lion is seen as the king of all beasts,
its mystic aura is believed to be inherited
by the wielder of this sign as well.
It might even indicate being of or having the claim to royality.
In Europe the Eagle & the Dragon are of similar rank as the Lion.
In China the Dragon would certainly be the number one by far.
In some areas of North America the Eagle would be prime.
It all depends in which culture area you are.
All three heraldic animals are old:
they have been in use since the ancient world
(further down the line than the Roman Empire).
The mentioned European States share roots or a similar history.
Therefore it's no wonder that they do use the same symbols, too.
E.g.: Through marriage, in the 14th century, at the time of the Holy Roman Empire,
some Dutch Counties became part of Bavaria. During the 14th and early 15th century
the bavarian coat of arms included four Dutch Lions.
Hence the similarity between the Dutch and the Bavarian Lion.
BTW: The Red Dragon of Wales (even part of the Unicode charset)
should look as "formidable" as the Dutch Lion.

Told very nicely in principle but
1) the Chinese dragon is a lucky animal primarily and
2) nothing is old in North America in this matter.
