Help with off images

Post by rbrooks5031 »

I have tried to converted a few photos to off images. I resized them to 400x240, 1 bit depth using gimp but they consistently error once they're on the dm42. Any suggestions on how to do it right?

Post a sample image here and we'll see if we can tell you what's wrong with it.

Did you change the Mode to Indexed with Floyd-Steinberg dithering? If not, open the Image menu to get to the mode menu.

I worked with good ol' Paint and didn't need anything as complex. Please do as grsbanks suggested and we'll have a look what to do.

Since he's already using Gimp, four mouse clicks (click Image, Mode, set bits to 2, click on Floyd-Steinberg) doesn't seem like a lot of work to me. How do you dither in Paint? I wouldn't mind using Paint if I could get the dithering to work.

Hmmh, the OP's problem wasn't the dithering, was it? Once more, I think grsbanks' offer is best and to the point.

At the end of the process, resizing, dithering... I EXPORT the file to bmp, don't save it but export it as bmp and it works.

Correct. Gimp (at least the version I use) doesn't even let you use Save or Save As to save a file in BMP format. You have to use Export.

Dithering really has nothing to do with it. He's using Gimp and I gave him the necessary procedure for creating an image in Gimp (I did leave off using Export rather than Save) that loads without error. If you don't follow the correct procedure, you get an error when trying to use the image. That's what he's seeing. And once more, how do you create a loadable image in Paint?
