Paint lets you Save As in monochrome bmp. Just FYI.toml_12953 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 29, 2019 1:37 pmCorrect. Gimp (at least the version I use) doesn't even let you use Save or Save As to save a file in BMP format. You have to use Export.

Re: Help with off images
Walter,
If you use Windows pain, sorry Paint, you maybe right and save the file as you explain.
But, GIMP/Linux needs ‘export as bmp’ to save correctly the file.

Re: Help with off images
In Paint, you need to set the .BMP file image properties of size and color depth ("Black and White") before you draw (or paste) the image, then save the file. Changing size or depth after you've created the image does not work (Paint works, but the file doesn't load properly).toml_12953 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 29, 2019 1:59 pmAnd once more, how do you create a loadable image in Paint?

When I set the image to black and white and paste a color image in Paint, all I get is a black screen.rprosperi wrote: ↑Tue Jan 29, 2019 3:00 pmIn Paint, you need to set the .BMP file image properties of size and color depth ("Black and White") before you draw (or paste) the image, then save the file. Re: Help with off images
Maybe this?
As I have posted elsewhere, my version of GIMP (on Linux) does not write BMP files properly and corrupts the header. Browsing through the interwebs tells me it happens with a variety of GIMP versions, not just mine, and not just on Linux. And it's not only the DM42 that cannot read them. I always check the file if it opens properly before I put in on the DM42.
I export to PNG, and then use ImageMagick to make the BMP.
