Don't know where to post this question, so here.

Microcode: the portrait version uses the HP internal ROMs. Is that straight or modified to accommodate the new-to-SM functions? By 'straight' I mean: are HP's original entry points and code locations intact (e.g. as in PPC's NOMAS listings) and, if not, is there any difference documentation? Thanks.

And second request, except that I know what they're about, Jake Schwartz's exhaustive documentation indices, journal lists, etc, are incomprehensible to me when viewed as CD ordering tools. Can anyone tell me just what I should order to get everything 41-related that he publishes? Thanks.

To have everything on the HP-41 and on HP calculators in general, you need the following: Sylvain

I had a different interpretation of what you were asking about Jake's PPC Archive collection, so I'll try a different kind of reply, though I agree with Sylvain's more thorough, larger scope, answer.

If you mean which CDs to order, the various material on each CD is broken down by the type of publication or document, rather than by HP model, so it's really impossible to say, e.g. 'only get CD1 and you'll have all the 41 material'. For example the PPC Calculator Journal Issues are on CD1, HP's great Key Notes newsletter and PPC ROM manual are on CD2, HPCC's Datafile collection is on CD3 and all the HP-related conference proceedings and PPC-Australia (one of the most active places for 41 stuff, especially MCODE) is on CD4.

However, the PPC archive has grown so much in the last few years, that Jake now sells the entire collection on a single 16GB USB Thumb Drive, which is MUCH faster and easier to navigate, so I recommend getting that.

For the initial question, the DM41 machines (and the forthcoming DM41X) run the 41CX original ROMs, so all entry points are preserved just as documented in the VASM listing. However, note that the PPC NOMAS VASM listing is for the 41C, while the DM41/DM41L are based on the 41CX (which added the Time and Extended Func/Mem modules, plus a few other related functions).

Thanks. Your interpretation was correct. All these scattered bits were what was foxing me and it wasn't clear that the USB was the fix. Now I have another problem: Jake's USB payment link throws a 404 Not Found error ans he seems not to be answering email. Any idea how to contact him these days?

Sorry for the delayed reply. I got myself onto the wrong side of a lockdown line and things have been disrupted for months.

I think I meant the VASM listing. NOMAS was the partial synonym that hit the keyboad.

The site says: For Paypal, please use "jakes@pahhc.org" as the destination.

Just send the listed payment to that address is all you need to do, but I'll also check w/Jake to make sure he see's that and all is well.

I hope you're ready to read.... :)
