Re: Old HPMuseum HP-30b primality test on the 41x

The 43S is using a completely different algorithm for its primality test. It's using Miller-Rabin . It is set up so that gives precise results up to a reasonably large number (3317044064679887385961981), beyond that it is only reporting probable primes. Pauli Does "probable" only include ...

Re: 43S News

This looks excellent, I am looking forward to availability. I collect stands and I thought the age of creating nice calculator stands had passed us by... Do the slots on each end hold the machine up at different angles? Which common machines, other than the DM42/41X/43S, does it hold? This looks to...

Re: Display update difference between DM41X and HP41

I can confirm EM41's reported erratic timing of VIEW using: Fill stack with 1's 01 LBL TEST 02 VIEW ST X 03 + 04 GTO TEST The display will have a normal delay interval and then show two numbers in quick succession or even skip a number entirely. At other times, the display will not change for 3-4 se...

Re: Source for additional MOD files

Another quarrel about which license should be preferred, and what it asks to abide to, is just what I was waiting for... Your statement here oozes sarcasm and expresses my sentiments exactly. As for the use of the term "quarrel", I would prefer to replace it with "bloody and extended...

Told very nicely in principle but
2) nothing is old in North America in this matter.
Indigenous peoples of the Americas and their descendants would disagree.

Can you or someone else check if this is common or just my machine.
I hear a distinct click as the sound drops out between the first and second tone.

ETA: This is most noticeable in SLOW mode. There is no problem in FAST mode and when the 41X is attached to USB power.

Re: Prime number needs

From the Wikipedia article on the Mersenne Twister pseudo-random number generator: The most commonly used version of the Mersenne Twister algorithm is based on the Mersenne prime 2^(19937)−1. It also appears that large primes are used for the Lehmer random number generator : Mersenne primes 2^31−1 a...

Re: Programmatic control of writing to file system

Not sure if anyone has made this point. Even if you had the ability to write to the DM41X's file system, currently you wouldn't be able to read that file from your PC while, say, a program is running. The USB disk is only accessible when you are in the dedicated USB mode. I don't know what limits th...
