Re: Section 17.3.1 Flash firmware

Coming from NC (1986) and Volkov Commander (1993?) I still use FAR since 1996. Wow, Norton Commander is a blast from the distant past!! And I had no idea that FAR was still available. In the good old DOS days, I eventually moved to Q-Dos II, which was the best File Manager tool I've ever used, but ...

Re: Section 17.3.1 Flash firmware

dm_tool and dfu-util still work fine and are supported, so should be documented. And I agree the docs should note the .bin file is removed after being successfully installed; it's not harmful or anything but could cause minor confusion for a new DM user. Many users (me, among them) prefer using dm_...

Re: Firmware finish needs to refer to "C" key and not exit

A minor nit. When finishing loading new firmware, the screen says to "press exit key" to continue. That should be "Press C key" instead. Also I do not know whether it is mentioned in any manual that the XEQ and Shift keys of the DM32 retain their character as arrow keys in setup...

Re: Section 17.3.1 Flash firmware

I see that a new Section 19 has been added to the User Manual covering the Firmware Update topic, but am a bit perplexed as to why it includes obsolete material that pertains to older versions of DMCP which do not apply to this new calculator. There is no need to discuss the use of dm_tool and dfu-u...

Re: Problem with USB Disk

Total Commander, though an excellent product, is known to 'grab and not let go' of some drives, even when changing the active windows to other media. I've never seen a clear and reliable explanation of why it does this and under what conditions, but it has been widely reported over the years. In th...

Re: Problem with USB Disk

I'm still having intermittent problems with the USB disk connection. Today I copied a file from the USB disk to my PC successfully, but when I attempted to copy a file from the PC to the USB disk, I first got an error from the PC that it couldn't copy the file because the destination disk was copy p...

Re: Section 17.3.1 Flash firmware

This section explains what a firmware file looks like but not actually how to install it. For example, should it go in the top level of the FAT disk or in one of the subdirectories? What happens if there is more than one firmware file present? There should be a separate section in the manual titled...

Re: What's the difference between the DM42 and the DM32

Here is a PDF that compares the features of the following HP calculator models: HP-32S, HP-32SII, HP 35S and HP-42S It is based on the comparison table available from the Museum of HP Calculators with additional information added. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1TqkNgxBfZBq3WTc_0cRvW43zywO19nWj/vi...

Re: Are many of you with the DM32 ?

State Files are structured, but relatively simple text files. So for a long program, rather than keying it into the DM32, it's more convenient to type the program into a text file on your computer, save it with a .d32 extension, copy it to the DM32's /STATE folder via USB-DIsk mode and then just op...

Re: Are many of you with the DM32 ?

Ordered and received, might replace my HP-35S due to the USB connection so the programming easily can be restored when I make mistakes :D You don't really need the USB port to save your programs, equations, data and settings, because you can save all this as state files on the FAT disk inside the c...
