Re: Cosmetic BUG: Typo in Error Message

I think it's just that the 't' is quite narrow (or not centrally spaced) in the HP fonts, so it looks like there is a narrow space between the 't' and the 'a'. Try typing "Data" as an ALPHA value.

Re: Random numbers

Here are the offsets of random_number_low and random_number_high in the state file (at least for firmware version 3.3): 0x16a random_number_low 0x172 random_number_high After 0 SEED, the saved state has: random_number_low = 174081 random_number_high = 82418800 Working backwards from the code: if (x ...

Re: Printing freeze

Printing to my 82240B I sometimes get the printer stopping and the DM42 is frozen. The printing symbol is displayed and a ((.)) symbol but the DM42 does not respond to keypresses. Cannot turn it off, cannot interrupt it with R/S. I have to do a complete memory reset with a paperclip in the hole on ...

Re: Serial port

We'll find out when they release the DM42 development tools, which I believe will happen in the not too distant future. I'm hoping they follow the lead of NumWorks, at least for the software (and most of it is yours anyway!). The plan was always that they would release the source code, with their m...

Re: Random numbers

I tried changing shell_random_seed() so it always returns zero, but that causes a different sequence than the one produced by the DM42 after 0 SEED. I guess there will be some clue in the saved state file. The saved state will only tell you what the seed was when the state was saved, not where that...

I don't know why Google Drive shows them all with a dark sepia background, but they look fine after downloading. Thanks for your efforts!

Re: Random numbers

Some STM32 microcontrollers have a built-in hardware RNG. If the DM42 has one, perhaps the shell_random_seed() function should use it.

Re: Random numbers

Just use 0 SEED. That seeds the random number generator using the real-time clock. How exactly it does this depends on how the shell_random_seed() function is implemented, and that is part of the platform-specific code, so we don't know (yet) how this works on the DM42. It doesn't seem to work on D...
