Re: buttons that don't register well

If you unclamp the LCD connector too often, the clamping mechanism will fall out completely rather than being partially held in place by the main body of the connector. That happened to mine today. You can still put it back in, but make sure you don't lose it!

When I think of IPA I think India Pale Ale!
I wouldn't recommend spraying beer on the calculator internals! :)

Re: NO BUG: "Sticky" (mechanical) keys

Is there any glue to hold parts of the keyboard in place or a printing which get accidentally solved since IPA is a good solvent ? I can't think of any parts of the calculator that IPA would dissolve. As a test, I just liberally sprayed the front and back of the keyboard and the sticky-backed plast...

Re: NO BUG: "Sticky" (mechanical) keys

Isopropanol (Isopropyl Alcohol / IPA) is generally good for cleaning electronic equipment. Use the 99% pure kind, not the 70% kind.

Re: program editor line-insertion issue

Yes. Free42 is released under the terms of the GPLv2; the DM42 firmware is a Derived Work; ergo SwissMicros must make the DM42 source code available to their customers. The only way around that would be a separate licensing agreement, under different terms, to be negotiated between SM and myself, b...

I'm surprised the forum search classes "qspi" as a common word, but apparently so!

Re: Random numbers

Ok, here's my find. The number of valid 'random' digits depends on the number of SEEDed digits after the decimal point. With 1 digit (0.1, 0.2, 0.3 ...) the 2nd to 12th digit are the same with the first RAN. With 2 digits (0.11, 0.12, 0.13 ...) then3rd to 12th digit are the same. And so on. So just...

Re: Keyboard debouncing

I'm wondering whether the ENTER key is more likely to bounce than the other keys due to it having two switches in parallel underneath the key top. Or perhaps only one of the switches is wired up and the other one is just for balance?

Re: Random numbers

I've saved machine state several times after "0 SEED"ing. Everytime the memory 0x016A to 0x0179 contains 01 A8 02 00 00 00 00 00 70 9C E9 04 00 00 00 00 I've saved and checked this 4 times These adresses seem plausible as after the first RAN they contain 53 16 7C 03 00 00 00 00 7F 3F 8D 0...

Re: Cosmetic BUG: Typo in Error Message

I think it's just that the 't' is quite narrow (or not centrally spaced) in the HP fonts, so it looks like there is a narrow space between the 't' and the 'a'. Try typing "Data" as an ALPHA value. Actually, the word "Data" looks fine on other platforms supported by Free42 (and I...
