Re: DM42 arrived today! Stack layout?

Does it still happen from a "Guest" browser window? (Click the user icon in the top right corner and select "Guest".) That will have all the extensions disabled. Yes it's one of the first tests I tried. As a side note, I've set up my Linux Arm Chromium units to use minimal exten...

Student Guides to some of the more challenging topics in the Physical sciences

My work as a creative technologist involves relatively easy mathematical challenges, so much of my continued interest in mathematics, physics and engineering is driven by my children (two boys and a girl, each a year apart). They are very competitive (with each other, as well as generally) and all s...

Re: DM42 arrived today! Stack layout?

I use Google Chrome on an x86-64 Debian Linux machine and haven't encountered any problems on the SM forum. Thanks @ijabbott, that's the info I was looking for. It seems the problem is isolated to the version of Chromium that's compiled for ARM processors (all Raspberry Pi's utilise ARM processors)...

Re: After extensive use: The keyboard

Back on the subject of servicing the 41x to get the best out of the device, I've come to think of it in a very similar vein to maintaining my 1966 Lambretta (maintaining a classic sports car is a tad beyond my pocket, not to say abilities!). It's needs TLC on a regular basis, but when you make that ...

Re: After extensive use: The keyboard

I recently took my 41x apart to make the keyboard more pliant and to my horror discovered that dusty particulate gets into the innards of the DM... hardware far too easily. The good news is that the DM... hardware has been designed to be taken apart so that customers can augment or generally maintai...

Re: DM42 arrived today! Stack layout?

Once again: How shall we know what the poster meant as long as we could only read what he wrote? :? Yet again it seems I've done something to offend your sensibilities Walter, but being precise about what I originally wrote, it was clear that I was discussing an issue relating to Linux OS distribut...

Re: DM42 arrived today! Stack layout?

If you use Chrome, you are using Chromium, it's the rendering engine used by Chrome, as well as a number of other browsers which simply wrap a UI with some other features and settings around it. Actually Microsoft's new version of Edge uses Chromium too, and I prefer it over Chrome for several reas...

Re: DM42 arrived today! Stack layout?

Talking of Linux. Does anybody else find that certain forum pages crash Chromium? I've had to install Firefox on all my Linux boxes simply so I can view the SM forum glitch free. I suspect that it's something to do with certain image embeds. It's no biggie as I have a workaround, but the behaviour i...

Re: New DM 42

Lifted the glass using the sucker trick and all as fine again. The one spec of dust that can be seen landed bang splat as I was taking the shot (at work so not a dust free environment). For anybody that's interested, you need to use no force at all with a decent 3cm sucker. And the glass slots back ...
