Re: WP 43S Pilot Run (Poll!)

The delay is my fault at the moment.

Re: 8 bit reversal? Easiest way?

This second version does three steps (values are in hexadecimal): Multiply by 202020202 which copies the byte five times across 41 bits. AND with 10884422010 which selects the bits in the correct positions based on ten bit bytes. Remainder 3FF (= 2^10-1 ) brings everything together. It is helpful to...

Re: 8 bit reversal? Easiest way?

How about this alternative? It doesn't involve a loop but requires the WSIZE to be at least 42: 001 LBL A 002 HEX 003 2 004 0 005 2 006 0 007 2 008 0 009 2 010 0 011 2 012 * 013 1 014 0 015 8 016 8 017 4 018 4 019 2 020 2 021 0 022 1 023 0 024 AND 025 3 026 F 027 F 028 RMD 029 RTN It's twice as long...

Re: Who uses the 43S simulator under Windows, Linux, or on a Mac?

1mm.Hg ≠ 1 torr. Saying it is close enough isn't the standard I want the 34S to be judged by.

I would support adding a mm.Hg conversion.

Re: DM42 and accuracy

Free42 uses Intel's decimal library. The 34S doesn't. Intel's library is faster, larger and doesn't carry as many guard digits as the 34S.

Re: Root-Seeking Algorithms

The WP 34S uses an updated version of Brent's method . In addition to the inverse quadratic, bisection and secant steps that Brent's use, it will also undertake steps of Ridder's method . Ridder's method is good but needs the root to be bracketed and isn't quite as general Brent's method. On the 34S...

Re: Scrolling CAT listings anyone?

Agreed, this would be an improvement.

Not having the catalog automatically progress would be great in conjunction.

Not a difficult target to meet with modern embedded processors.

Re: 43S News

an attempt to ditch radians failed as well. Thus, frowning, we must allow for and support a huge number range which is unphysical to its overwhelming part. Dropping radians and limiting the range to 10^99 would still require upwards of 130 digits to be carried to successfully do the modulo r...

Re: 43S News

We're not using math.h primarily because it uses a binary based floating point format. Calculators use decimal floating point because their users mostly work in decimal. The differences can be a surprise at times. Something as simple as 0.3 cannot be exactly represented as a binary number, it can in...
