Re: May 2021 Speculations

Michael mentioned that the new product would be "keystroke programmable". I'd love it if they could produce a non-programmable variant. There are many exams (I have one scheduled tomorrow morning) where programmable calculators aren't allowed. This takes every RPN/RPL calculator made in th...

Re: Non-numeric stuff in calculations

Walter, that's a really intriguing question, and I really had to think about it. I'm a Civil Engineer, so in real life there's really no way to encounter a NaN that's not an error, so I started thinking about your question more abstractly. I encounter the inverse pretty regularly- that is, I find te...

Re: Possibility for a financial calculator? (apart from the DM12)

It's only a waste of time if you're not personally interested in it. That said, the 17-series would be a challenge, since it's from an era when HP was copyrighting their ROMs, and 3rd party solutions are closed source.

Hp41 was the best, do not change anything.
Maybe that's the answer. If someone could shove the 41 CX rom into the DM42, then we could be reassigning keys and manually typing in functions like it was 1979.

Re: PUSH/POP stack

As I understand it, one disadvantage of this method is that the stack can't contain a matrix. The other way (using registers) would be able to support a matrix on the stack.

... a copy of Avogardro's Numbers (a small reference book), ... Is that something that's obtainable for the mere mortals on this forum? :) 20190329_094838.jpg It looks like it's out of print. It was compiled by Herbst and Schiller, copyright 1988. Mine is an artifact from my University days. It's a...

Re: Case for Voyager 'L' size

For my DM42, I use a hard case for the HP-35S. It holds the unit securely, and has enough room for a HP-42S quick reference, a copy of Avagardro's Numbers (a small reference book), and a few business cards.

Thoughts on DM42 User Manual

One thing that bugs me (not really, but it is something that I've noticed) is that the DM42 User Manual is written for someone who is familiar with the HP-42S or Free42, and needs to know how to do DM42-specific things, like update firmware, change system setttings, save files and state-files, etc. ...

Re: Spreadsheet App for DM42

If you're working within a single equation, the Solver is an awesome tool. You can manipulate many variables and do what-if tests quickly. In the 90s I was running a rad lab in the field and this saved me sooooo many hours.
