Re: Importing free 42 source code to dm42

Hi Rich, on the Free42 you can File -> Export a program in binary format. This file you can copy into the program directory of your DM42 (when attached to a computer in USB mode). On the DM42 you can then import the file with Setup -> File -> Load Program. I hope that helps. Cheers, Florian

Re: DM42 decoder/encoder error

At that point, wouldn't it be easier to just copy-and-paste the program code into free42 (thanks Thomas for this marvelous functionality!) and to export the raw file from there onto the DM42?

Re: Matrix in program

Glad I could be of help.

Still, I am with you in hoping that one day there might be a more ... compact ... way of including matrix data in programs. :)

Re: Matrix in program

Quoting from the HP-42S Owner's Manual, Appendix C: Flags You can detect an error by setting flag 25 just before an instruction and then testing the flag after the instruction to see if it has been cleared. (Generally, you should test and clear flag 25—you risk los- ing data if you choose to ignore ...

Re: Can I presume the DM42 is no longer supported?

The DM42 current uses Free42 3.05...That version came out July 1st, 2021. Since then, there have been numerous error corrections and enhancements etc...The DM42 was promised to be updated every 3 months...The version of Free42 in the DM42 is almost 6 and a half months old!...The DM42 clearly is not...

Re: DM42 "USB Disk Mode" works at random - mostly not at all

This is (unfortunately) a known issue with the DM42. The micro-USB socket is sitting too far inside the case so that a USB cable with a standard connector will only barely make contact. Just for power supply is usually fine, those contacts are a little bit longer. But to get the data lines also conn...

Re: Inspiring the next generation of RPN users

It's much simpler than you think, it's not really a lookup table, the coordinates for each step are simply those of the key you press; for example on the 16C, if you press X<>Y (which is the 4th key in the 3rd row,) in program mode, it inserts the code 34. So when you later look at a program, you e...

Re: Inspiring the next generation of RPN users

I own a 12C and DM16L. Both calculators don't display their program steps in "Hex", but instead use a co-ordinate system where 43 means 4 down 3 across. Number keys are given their literal values. Thank you for the clarifications. Till now I thought that this is really some kind of hex co...

Re: Inspiring the next generation of RPN users

Thanks a lot for explaining the origins of the 'repellent' word play. (I was aware of the latter but not of the former.) That makes things clearer. Still, even if intended in a joking mood, I feel that the phrase is partially used here as a catch-all in place of proper arguments that might be more p...

Re: Inspiring the next generation of RPN users

I was quite undecided for a long time now whether I should also join this interesting but kind of "dangerous" discussion. But what the heck, sounds like fun. :D So even though I am not young by my number of years I am still rather new to the world of RPN and its variants. As such I didn't ...
