Re: DM42 hung, had to reset
Done, FAT reformatted. I'll keep an eye on the calculator and report back, if it starts behaving strange again. One strange thing I noticed just before, the HELP folder on the DM42 was empty? Great, glad it was easy to follow. I'd guess that the help file got clobbered when the FAT was damaged; the...

Re: DM42 hung, had to reset
He he Massimo - I also think it sounds a bit drastic. I had a look here: https://technical.swissmicros.com/dm42/doc/dm42_user_manual.html#_format_fat_disk But I'm not 100% comfortable with how to perform the operation. I'll remain in orbit and consider nuking it a bit longer ;-) LOL, what Massimo p...

Re: DM42 hung, had to reset
Overwriting a state file will indeed correct the corruption as a new file is written properly. That said, when the system crashed, it's possible the FAT was corrupted, which can manifest itself in many ways including corrupted state files. If the state of the FAT is suspect of being damaged, it's be...

Re: DM42 hung, had to reset
I'm using Firefox on Windows. I do see the images in the post just above. When the DM42 is in USB disk mode, there is no (SM) software running at all, it's just a slave mode supported by a library for the underlying chipset. While I can't say 100% that it's impossible that library has a problem, it'...

Re: DM42 hung, had to reset
I can't see images in your post, so could not comment on them. After resetting the device and restoring your device (and formatting FAT if it was damaged) does the DM42 behave normally? Although a handful of devices have had verified h/w issues, to date, no problems have been reproduced or verified ...

Re: New Version of free43 3.0.11
There will probably be a new release of DM42 later in the summer. And before folks tear their hair out insisting updates were promised every 90 days, etc. here is the post announcing the DM42 release update timing: As you all know, the DM42's firmware is split into the proprietary operating system, ...

Re: DM42 hung, had to reset
Your images are not visible (at least to me) but in about 98% of cases like this, the cause is a USB cable that is not seated deeply enough in the micro-USB slot, or less commonly, a bad cable. It's not impossible that a h/w issue exists, but only a very, very few (<<10) cases have turned out to tru...

Re: May 2022 Speculations
Aren't the "+"and "÷" functions swapped from where they traditionally are on HP and DM calculators -- with the exception of the HP41/DM41X? All Voyager and Pioneer models use the same locations for the primary math operators on the right side, divide, multiply, subtraction, addi...

Re: May 2021 Speculations
I will dare to make one more post in this loose guessing and speculation thread. I missed out, that Michael said "saturn CPU". According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HP_Saturn, the following models had a saturn CPU: HP-71, HP-18, HP-48, HP-49, HP-39, HP-40, HP-50 All of the Pioneer an...
