Re: novice programming questions
Thank you, Thomas Okken and dlachieze, for the information, resources, and encouragement. My son asked me on Saturday what work I was doing and I replied that I wasn't working, I was learning how to use my calculator better. He gave me a quick doubtful side glance, but I hope in my spontaneous answe...

novice programming questions
I am learning the capabilities of the DM42 by methodically reading the HP-42S manual as well as online forums. Because my PDF version of the manual isn't searchable, I have novice questions and observations. (1) [GTO] . and general meaning of the deciimal point From p.111 of the manual, I see that [...

Re: time and date functions
Appendix C of the HP-42S Owner's Manual only describes flags 31 and 67 as "reserved" for future use. Is there a more complete and updated catalog of the control flags (11 through 35) and system flags (36 through 80)? I seem to be the only person at the party who doesn't know what each fla...

Re: time and date functions
I've figured out what's happening here. The DM42 app is setting flag 67 when going into YMD mode but not clearing flag 31. We were working under the (obviously false) impression that flag 67 overrode flag 31 and that it therefore didn't matter what state flag 31 was in. Clearly it does :) So that's...

Re: time and date math
This was just answered in the Problem Reports section. Please don't post the same problem in more than 1 location; it makes it difficult for people to follow issues and answers. Suggest you go to the other thread and continue the discussion there. Thanks for the redirect. Despite the timestamps, my...

Re: time and date math
Coincidentally, I wrote a post about your question earlier today! However, I am new to the forums (I received my DM42 only two weeks ago), so my post is waiting in the queue to be approved by a moderator. Here is a partial answer to your question: the DM42 already has time and date functions. They a...

time and date functions
I have had my DM42 (S/N 05503) for a couple of weeks. It's been more than a quarter century since I've used a similar calculator (HP-48), so there's a lot for me to remember, understand, and explore. One thing I don't understand: the time and date functions, which are Free42 extensions to the HP-42S...
