Re: RPN option for school children

Nice to see there are still new students who prefer the RPN system, @fra04. :)

On the subject of learning about those calculators, you should have a look at https://www.hpmuseum.org if you've not already been there.

Re: DM32 Keypad

I can only confirm that the new domes behave much better, though it's not perfect. I never heard of keys being stuck though; the typical problems were keys that failed to register unless pressed hard enough, and keys registering multiple times. But it sounds related to domes too, so the new ones sho...

Re: RPN option for school children

That remains a small niche for engineering and scientific students though. Other students don't usually need a calculator on the field, and it's more natural for them to enter the numbers and operations as they see them on paper when they're at school, then they keep that habit for later. When I see...

Re: New "HP"-15C Collectors Edition

I have to agree that it doesn't have much to do with Pascal, except a few keywords like BEGIN and END, and the ':=' assignment token. It doesn't really matter, though.

Re: New "HP"-15C Collectors Edition

Nice comparison table. The HP-15C is landscape, not portrait. ;) I saw that the HP Prime had a lower price; it's quite competitive but still unfinished and unstable apparently. I thought the programming was a proprietary language (HP PPL) and not Basic, but I may be wrong. My favourite remains the H...

Not interested right now. Simpler, unfinished, and more expensive doesn't compute. ;)

Re: RPN option for school children

exactly… ! it’s the same in dutch , the important part of the verb comes (sometimes) at the end of the sentence. Dutch speaking people listen other people before answering :D do german people like RPN better than english speaking people ? I would argue that the tangconstructie makes you closer to t...

Re: SwissMicros, DMCP OS, blank platform - What if?

You'd still need to make the program for the calculator, which would take a lot of time. Selling a blank calculator would only make sense if SM sold the SDK with it, with the libraries they've been developing for the DM32, or part of it. It's probably too much hassle to setup for a small gain and a ...

Re: RPN option for school children

2 sqrt To get the square root of two. It’s not a big step from there to get to full RPN. It's true that algebraic calculators are a little ambivalent. :D I suppose it would be awkward to have to close a parenthesis to validate the SQRT, but they could have done that. I did a few test on Windows' ca...

Re: RPN option for school children

At the University I went to, you had to pre-approve your calculator before exams. This was a sticker back in the day. I suppose if most people are using a standard calculator, then this is quick to do, with exceptions taking longer. That's a good idea. :) But that may still force people to need two...
