One small suggestion: show the equation underneath where it says "Power*", if there is room.

EDIT: I mean the equation with the a0 and a1 coefficient symbols in it, not an equation with the numeric coefficients, just as a reminder of what the coefficient symbols represent.
Thanks for your suggestion - will think about making this possible. Additionally, there will be (surprise!) two manuals for this product when it will become reality - some 500 pages in total so far.

Assuming the DM42 is intended to be the platform - when might the details needed to write software for it be published?
What is the metric tensor in imperial units?

Is there a chance we can get a link to one or both of these manuals?

Please read what I wrote above. 8-)

... and it's even viable. :) Just for logarithmic fits you loose a digit more, meaning output of fit parameters will have a somewhat limited precision but sufficient for the real world by far.

EDIT: If I counted correctly, parameter output for L.R. would be confined to 12 'significant' digits total in FIX format and to 8 'significant' digits in SCI or ENG with a 2-digit exponent. This should cover precision for all reasonable applications of such fits - and after next keystroke, you may see every number in full 16 digits glory FWIW.

EDIT2: More careful counting resulted in 1 significant digit more - corrected above.

Am I the only one who doesn't like the look of this? I mean no disrespect, but it looks terribly cluttered to me.

What exactly looks cluttered? :? Please be slightly more specific.

What I've learned from potential customers:
  • They prefer the HP-32II over the HP-32. Thus, two shift keys are featured.
  • They want to see four stack levels FWIW. Ok, you get them. You can always display less ... ;)
  • They don't like deep menus. Thus, up to 18 menu items are shown at once. All can be accessed directly as described above.
Please tell me if I misunderstood customer requirements.

Is a size reduction possible for the fit equation? Split it over two lines? Rename a0 and a1 as a and b? Other shortcut?
This text is purely informational, so maximum readability needn't be a strict requirement.

Of course, 8 significant digits is more than adequate for real world use :)

I like this - just one question which comes to mind: Will it be possible to show / hide the rows of soft key labels on the bottom of the screen, to see actual mathematics instead?

Mind you, I am one of those (or perhaps the only one?) who like to always see the "default" soft menu on the DM42 and probably will on the 43S as well - if the soft keys do anything, I'd like to see what, but 1/3 (edited) of the screen is a lot of space sometimes...
