A dumb question ?
A dumb question ?
Please forgive my ignorance, but I want to know if programs and data that I have saved using SETUP File Save Program and SETUP Calc.State Save State are preserved not only after a RESET, but also from battery removal/discharge. Is there anything that is not saved by these procedures ? TIA HPMike.

AFAIK the entire user RAM is saved in flash memory so it will survive a battery loss as well.
WP43 SN00000, 34S, and 31S for obvious reasons; HP-35, 45, ..., 35S, 15CE, DM16L S/N# 00093, DM42β SN:00041

Re: A dumb question ?
The Free42 state includes everything the real calculator remembers: programs, variables, registers, flags, the command line, etc. -- but also additional state like the position of the app window on the desktop, the names of the files used to capture printer output, auto-repeat mode...
Only David or Michael can answer definitively what, exactly, DM42 stores in its saved state.

Files and States are saved to the flash memory by saving them using the saving options from the SETUPHPMike wrote: ↑Fri Dec 29, 2017 8:33 pmPlease forgive my ignorance, but I want to know if programs and data that I have saved using SETUP File Save Program and SETUP Calc.State Save State are preserved not only after a RESET, but also from battery removal/discharge. Flash memory doesn't need any power to retain what's saved there. Thus changing the battery doesn't affect the flash memory.
But it always may occur that some strange forces find their way into your precious device, having some negative effect. Or you inadvertently invoke a check of the disk or do some kind of formatting or what else an adventurous user may try to test what treatment the DM42 can survive.
