How do you get the actual image to show in your message? I only get a black box with IMA.
But for that to work with DropBox you need a paid account that gives you a public folder.

Or you can include the image itself in the message, and not a link. On my Mac, I can do this by just dragging the file from the Finder to the message composition area in the browser, and in the Attachments panel that appears, click Place Inline.
That way you don't have to worry about where to store the image; the forum takes care of that for you.

OK, I'll try it here: Nope. On a Win 10 machine I get "Error: Invalid file extension."
The file extension is bmp. I tried with both Internet Explorer and Edge.

It sounds like the problem is not the OS or the browsers you tried, but the image file format. I only tried it with PNG images, and that worked, but apparently BMP is not supported. Could be that that's just a phpBB setting that would have to be modified.

OK, now I'm trying a png file. Ça marche!

Seaview Deck Plan Int.png
Ça marche bien, except for this part of the forum rules:
Images MUST be in Windows-NT .bmp format at a resolution of 400x240 pixels and 1-bit colour depth or they will not be displayed by the DM42. Images that do not meet this requirement will be removed from the forum

Which is one part forum policy, and one part DM42 compatibility.
Adding PNG support to the DM42 firmware is probably not practical. Allowing BMP files to be posted to the forum, on the other hand, just might be. Any phpBB experts ready to weigh in?

Does Mac allow saving in a different format? When I right-click the image on the forum in WIndows, it gives me the option to save it in either png or bmp format so allowing png files to be posted shouldn't be much problem for Windows users at least.

PNG images can be posted but they can't be used by the DM42 afterwards without conversion to BMP before copying them over to the calculator.
However, the point is to avoid posting images to the forum in order to avoid taking up filesystem space on SwissMicros' server. I would much rather that you upload them elsewhere (in which case the restriction preventing you from posting BMP files to the phpBB forum becomes irrelevant) and linked to them in your post to the forum.

OK by me! URLs it is from now on unless I decide to get a paid sub to dropbox.
