There is an old mathematical claim that all natural numbers from 1 to 100 can be expressed as sums of three cubes of integers, i.e. n=i^3+j^3+k^3. Until 2018, this was proven for all n but 33 and 42 (sic!). Earlier this year, the proof for 33 was achieved at Bristol University (UK) using a supercomputer for 3 weeks. Only 42 was missing still. Using a huge computer network, two mathematicians (of Bristol University and MIT) now found i, j, k are
12 602 123 297 335 631,
80 435 758 145 817 515, and
−80 538 738 812 075 974
to solve this problem. Using the WP43S simulator, you can verify this recent mathematical discovery in a minute.
Kudos!

Hi all,

Some of you may remember the Allschwil Meeting in November 2018 where Martin and I presented the very first edition of the 43S simulator for the first time ever. In the vivid discussion after our talk, you asked us (also) for a date of availability for the 43S. I remember it took me some courage to claim you will get the simulator within a year.

Now, twelve months later, you may know the WP43S simulator being available on GitLab for quite some weeks already. Furthermore, you can flash your DM42 following the WP43S Reference Manual (ReM) and enjoy the current state of our software on "the real thing". Both manuals are available on GitLab as well.

So I think it's about time we invite you: please take our offer, use the simulator and/or WP43S.pgm, play with it and test it as far as currently possible! Almost all menus and most of the "standard" scientific functions work (incl. logarithmic, trigonometric, and hyperbolic functions, as well as unit conversions especially for our friends off SI). What is not working yet are many statistical and probability functions, all matrix and programming operations, UNDO, ASSIGN, plus most of the so-called "advanced math". You can see the respective marks in the ReM. It also indicates our present "open construction sites" so you can see there is still a lot to do. If you happen to come across an operation not coded and implemented yet, you will get an error message telling you exactly this - fear nothing more.

So please check and test - and if you experience any documentation errors, unexpected reactions or weird returns of our software, please report your observations presenting suitable evidence here on this forum. We will do our very best to improve it (but please remember it's a hobbyist's project still and we can very easily count the number of active collaborators within).

Thanks in advance for your support! Looking forward to your reports! (Ducks and covers)

hi Walter, the reference manual only mentions Windows emulation; were there some notes somewhere for MacOS? I thought I had them but I can't seem to find it… thanks.

Please look here: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2242 (sometimes answers are easy ;) ).

Hi all,
....
Thanks in advance for your support! Looking forward to your reports! (Ducks and covers)
Here's my support :)
I have created a simple overlay for the DM42 flashed as WP43S. Get this PDF: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Eo7vjq ... sp=sharing and print it on normal paper. Then cut off the paper above and below the faceplate. Now wrap the remaining paper around your DM42, apply some scotch tape and your done. Far from being perfect but usable to find the right keys when exploring the WP43S on a DM42.

Günter

OOPS: Edited to show the correct overlay, thanks Walter

Thanks for the good will. The link works in principle BUT it's not a WP43S layout linked. :? (Er hat sich stets bemüht ... aber ...)
