Hewlett Packard-IP

Post by Krauts In Space »

What is the politics of HP concerning shape, layout and functions of all past HP calculators?
I mean, the HP12C is still on sale and Swissmicros builds and sales a better copy of it as well all other voyager calcs.
Does HP say "Here you are, do as you want, as long as you won't name it HP" - or takes it a long licensing process with lots of fees?

Best wishes,

I am certainly not a lawyer or IP expert, and I'm sure that SM is much more sophisticated that I am, but here are a couple of observations:

1) Any design patent on a Voyager machine is long since expired.
2) HP chose not to copyright the ROMs on those machines.
