Is this where I should post to subscribe to a "The DM42 has been released" type notification?

I don't think there is such a thing!

I'm sure you'll hear about it here when it happens. It will be more than worth the wait!

Nitpick: It's the Intel Decimal Floating-Point Math Library -- Decimal, not BCD. BCD is a specific way of encoding decimal in binary, with each digit being encoded using a group of four bits, and the Intel library uses a different, more efficient, encoding internally.
From Intel lib's README:
The IEEE Standard 754-2008 for Floating-Point Arithmetic supports two
encoding formats: the decimal encoding format, and the binary encoding format.
The Intel(R) Decimal Floating-Point Math Library supports primarily the binary
encoding format for decimal floating-point values, but the decimal encoding
format is supported too in the library, by means of conversion functions
between the two encoding formats
.
How does Intel lib perform computations - in decimal or in binary format with conversions to decimal?

Mostly in binary but some in decimal. From what I've seen thus far (which isn't a lot), a binary approximation is used followed by a decimal refinement.

Any updates on the release for the DM42? I thought it was supposed to be sometime around now

The plan is to release the DM42 some time in Q4 2017 and we're in Q4 now. So yes, we are getting close to production-ready status.

Sick. I've been waiting since I found out about it a couple of months ago, and am excited to see it. I also hope to get it as a late birthday present for my father
