DM42

Post by BenB » Mon Apr 24, 2017 7:14 pm

Hey guys,

thanks to the team for opening up this forum. Maybe this helps collecting all the important information in one place. (I am in no way affiliated with SW, just an enthusiast)
I will just go ahead and start a thread with the (at least for me) most important thing:

The DM42.
Here a likk of the current prototype: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0LK7JotR728

Maybe the team can keep us up to date in this thread with regular updates and start this off right away with the current state.
Afaik the first non-prototype hardware came about three weeks ago but had faulty displays and they are awaiting a new one. This will then be send out to people willing to beta test.

@Michael Sorry for going ahead like this, but I think like me there are a lot more people on the edge of their seats for this particular (and many other) products of yours.

I'm eager to try the DM42, but even more eager for a landscape version.

I too am looking forward to the release of the 42. My 42S mysteriously stopped working about 9 months ago, and I have been waiting patiently.... It will be interesting having the extra screen space--I'll no longer have to remember what's in the various registers. Definitely excited for the portrait version--I've been using a landscape while I wait, but my fingers still haven't learned the pattern.

Portrait mode all the way! Much prefer it.

I would really like to get an update from Michael.

If I would know that the DM42 beta batch is around the corner and will be send out in the next month, I would be down to wait. Otherwise I would go ahead and purchase a 15L right now. However I would much prefer the 42. I have to weigh between the need for a new calculator (and not using smartphone emulators anymore) and really wanting the 42 instead of the 15L (of course a nice one too).

the list for the beta units is getting longer and longer, first come first served.
Unfortunately the glass covers for the LCD are still missing. Communication with the manufacturer could be better.
They told me they should be finished by last week, but haven't heard from them anymore, even after asking again.
So, I suggest you get a DM15L now and a DM42 once they're officially released 8-)

Michael,

Would you consider polling your potential beta testers to consider whether they would accept the incorrect gorilla glass screen to get the beta testing/debugging underway? It may be worth considering, as the beta units will possibly have a couple of dollars off the sticker price and an incorrect screen is not really a big deal. It gets things moving, and probably helps puta bit of sex and sizzle into the forum too as beta feedback comments will start to flow. Just a suggestion...

Kind regards,

Kim Wood
