DM42, where do we start?

Post by Boub65 »

Hi all,
I ordered my DM42, and I am waiting for Santa Claus to bring it to me next week hopefully...
I was wondering "where do I start learning how to use it?"

Background : I have no HP42s, never used Free42 and was not a beta tester (so I didn't follow the threads about DM42)...
I only am a user of DM41L and DM15L...

So I identified (as listed on the SM website) the Free42 manual and the HP42s manuals and I am reading them.
I hope that these two manuals will cover more than 80% of DM42 functionalities/usage.

But what about :
- all the DM features that are on top of Free42?
- connectivity with PC?
- tool to decode/encode?
I've found nothing on SM website (yet)...

Sincerely,
Boubker.
Sincèrement, Sincerely, 73,
Boubker

DM15L, DM41L, DM42 #00855 (domes upgraded), DM41X #00707
HP48SX (with dark screen), HP42s, HP32SII (1990 with fraction bug), HP41C/CV
TI-89 titanium, CASIO fx-cg50 and Numworks (to play with micropython)

"Congratulations on your purchase! You now own one of the most advanced calculators in the world!"

I always loved instruction manuals that started off that way. It always made me feel good about my purchase!

Unfortunately the extra features are not well documented in one place. You'll have to scan through the beta messages in the announcements forum to really get the most out of the calculator. Most people here are very friendly and willing to help answer any questions you may have. I have asked questions that, looking back, now seem dumb but they were patiently answered by the group.
Welcome to the world of the DM42!

IMHO they will cover 95%.

Well, that's a problem the community is aware of. The SM team focussed on meeting a product launch significantly before Christmas though. In a perfect world, said product must be accompanied by a manual explaining what you are asking (and more). Since I'm a beta tester, I didn't order any calculator now, so I won't learn if said manual is really part of the package. If true you're done. Else please turn e.g. here: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=209 and read this thread for first answers to your questions.
WP43 SN00000, 34S, and 31S for obvious reasons; HP-35, 45, ..., 35S, 15CE, DM16L S/N# 00093, DM42β SN:00041
