Self Test on DM42?
Self Test on DM42?
Is there anything like that? How is it started?
WP43 SN00000, 34S, and 31S for obvious reasons; HP-35, 45, ..., 35S, 15CE, DM16L S/N# 00093, DM42β SN:00041
Re: Self Test on DM42?
I have no idea if this will work with the DM42, but the self test features of a HP15C function correctly on my DM15L. I'd give it a shot, but I have to wait for mine.
For the HP-42s, pg 261 of the owners manual.
To start the self-test, hold down [EXIT] while you press the [LN]
key. Once the self-test has begun, do not press any keys until you are ready to halt the test.
During the test, the calculator beeps periodically and displays
various patterns and characters. Watch for one of two messages
that are displayed before the test automatically repeats:
I If the calculator passes the self-test, the calculator displays
"0K—42S—E"
For the HP-42s, pg 261 of the owners manual.

Re: Self Test on DM42?
These do not work on the DM42.
Those instructions were common to all Pioneer machines, but the DM42 is not based on the HP ROMs (whereas the DM1x machines are based on HP ROMs), but rather on the excellent (and superior) built from scratch Free42 application. This was ported to the DM42 platform by the SM team.
SM has not revealed if there are any other built-in diagnostics.

Re: Self Test on DM42?
I didn't know that free42 would not support it. Though maybe I should have, as it will not work on Free42 on my android phone.
I'm not so sure about all the Pioneers having common instructions. My HP32s does not have a [EXIT] key and [C]+[LN] as mentioned in the instructions does not perform a self test. The manual says that [C]+[LN] should reset the calculator (but not clear the memory) though there are more key combinations that clear the memory. [C]+[yx] gets me a manual screen and keyboard self test, and [C]+[1/x] gets me a auto screen plus self test. The 32s is a strange beast and may not be a good comparison to the rest of the Pioneer series.

Re: Self Test on DM42?
There are 3 different self-test sequences for the different members of the Pioneer series: Self-test on the Pioneer series.
DM42: 00425 - DM41X: β00066 - WP43: 00042
Re: Self Test on DM42?
Thank you for the details Didier, clarifying my too-hasty and overly general reply. Without reading the exact steps for 42S diags, I was pointing out the HP machines used diags built into their ROMs, which the DM42 does not have, but should have been more clear. As usual, you have just exactly the right resource. Re: Self Test on DM42?
Please remember the question was concerning the DM42.

Re: Self Test on DM42?
This actually isn't correct, the DM42 firmware includes a Diagnostic screen (Setup->System->Enter System Menu->Diagnostics), which displays a variety of system specs/status (CPU, disk, battery, USB) and also includes a simple but effective tool to verify each key-press, so while not a full Self-Test, it provides enough information to check the heath of the system and see how it's behaving. It has been so long since I checked it, I literally forgot it was there, which is of course a really good sign about the stability of the beta devices.
I was reminded of this feature when reading the new online DM42 V 3.0 User Manual:
(http://www.swissmicros.com/doc/dm42_use ... anual.html)
which will answer many questions for new DM42 owners eager to explore their new Christmas presents which have started to arrive.
Sadly, a few more days until they reach US, but I'm delighted Michael and David, with help from grsbanks, met their "in time for Christmas" commitment, and look forward to my DM42.
Thanks Team!
