Original fonts

Hello,

Was it a deliberate choice from Swissmicros to not display the same (or at least very similar) fonts as the original ones ?

It seems for me that the Swissmicros calculators loose the opportunity to produce an additional and "magical" effect due to the font used.

What do you think of it ?

I asked this question a while back (or similar).

It was pointed out that one major difference is the slanted LCD segments on the Voyager calcs. That would be hard to reproduce on a vertical dot matrix like the DM calcs.

I have tried all the supplied fonts, and find the thin one the least objectionable; but it's nowhere near as nice looking as the originals.

Not sure I got your point. Do you want the DM42 repeating the 131 x 16 pixel dot matrix of the HP-42S after three decades of display progress? Please note one pixel on the DM42 is far smaller than on the HP-42S...

Or which DM models were you talking about?

good point Walter; I assumed the OP was talking about the Voyagers, not sure why. Apols if I've gone off-topic :)

It probably is the Voyagers, as the DM42 has a font that is very similar to the original HP-42S, although it also has a different font, which possibly is selected leading to the question?

There's no doubt the original font of the Voyagers would be nice on the Dm1x models; as my eyes get older, the chunky Voyager LCD display seems ever easier to read...
