DM 48 .... WHY NOT ?!!!

Post by zx_spectrum »

tons of people are addicted to the ultimate engineering calculator HP 48G . and usually hp 48g fans (RPL users) are not really friendly with the stack style and the whole old-RPN of hp 42s (DM42)

i have been really eagerly waiting for a news from swissmicros about a clone of hp 48g.

seriously ... i would get 10 units at ones

Well, I can give you 2 reasons why SwissMicros would not use Emu48.

Firstly, it's released under GPL and I don't think they would try that again.

Secondly, Emu48 requires a ROM image from an original HP-48G/S and that's copyrighted by HP so can't be distributed along with the hypothetical DM48.
There are only 10 kinds of people in the world: those who understand binary and those who do not.

Emu48 is already freely available, almost the same DM42 frame can be used( with the addition of 5 more keys )
so swissmicros, why not ??!!

'Cause it uses a RePeLlent system.

WP43 SN00000, 34S, and 31S for obvious reasons; HP-35, 45, ..., 35S, 15CE, DM16L S/N# 00093, DM42β SN:00041

I realize it's a bit of a Holy War, and RPL has its faults, but it always struck me as more of a logical system than the limited stack RPN.

i don't agree on the holy-war thing. it is just a matter of how intuitive the stack is.
still, a lot of people feel more comfortable with classic RPN and there is nothing wrong with that just that there is a the other half that RPL-people
that's why i am calling for a RPL machine

i have just came across a completed sale for DM 42 on ebay.
the seller's description of the machine was as follow:

"Like-new DM42 calculator. This is the ultimate RPN calculator ever built! It's been used literally twice, I'm just an RPL guy. Works great, and comes with the latest firmware.

NOTE: Free shipping to continental US only!"

you see what i am talking about !!

I never felt the urge for an unlimited stack and its garbage collection.
Furthermore RPN was abandoned many moons ago, while you had many models and iterations to play with.
May we have a little fun now?

Oh, and yes: it's a Holy War.
