I have been trying to no avail to produce a few images to add to my DM42 to no avail.
I make them 400 x 200 Black and White etc. but the calculator is unable to read them.
If I wish to attach an image for someone to analyze what file type is needed. I assumed
that .bmp would be accepted to this forum but it is not. I get the message 'invalid file type".

The size of the BMP about 12.6kB
I checked a few and found only these three numbers:
12'610 bytes
12'544 bytes
12'542 bytes

The correct size is 400x240 not 400x200. To attach the pictures in the forum you can zip them.

Zipping isn't necessary and doesn't save much space in this case.

The forum doesn't allow .bmp to be attached to posts, but it allows zip files.

The forum accepts .png files without any problem. Just open your .bmp file e.g. using PAINT and store it as a .png file. Done!

Yes but the OP was wanting someone to analyze his pictures. If you convert them you may prevent any issue analysis while putting them in a zip file keeps their original file format.
