Try searching for "help file" and "qspi". Not so easy...

Post by H2X »

I find the search feature of this forum a bit lacking. I have tried searching for both "help file", "qspi", and several other things that I consider quite relevant to this forum, only to be informed that
The following words in your search query were ignored because they are too common words: file help.
I'd appreciate it if some empowered individual could educate this artificial not-quite-so-intelligent-as-one-might-hope entity a bit...

That is why I tend to use google for searching things in the net, like this:
help file qspi site:forum.swissmicros.com

I got just 5 answers using the above search string, but got 7 if looking only for qspi, and 26 if looking for help file.

Using Google extensively may become expensive in the long run. :(

There are less intrusive alternatives such as DuckDuckGo (US based) or Qwant (Europe based) to name a few.

I am aware of Google & al. But their bots can hardly index posts with restricted access?

That being said, Google is no friend of mine, but regardless of that I'd much prefer to use an internal search function in the forum. Why should it be so opinionated about particular words?

I regularly see "Google Feedfetcher" under "who is online"; if the forum is configured to recognize that bot (and also Bing, Baidu, and who knows what else), then would it allow them to index even restricted groups? I don't know phpBB administration, but I'm pretty sure there are forums that operate this way.

I'm surprised the forum search classes "qspi" as a common word, but apparently so!

Even "DM42" and "Free42" are common! And "dm_tool", "flash", "manual". Serves us right, thinking we were up to anything special...
