Where is the PRGM hole ?

Post by HPMike »

My calculator SN: 00159 is missing the PRGM hole in the back of the case and there is no label as well. Did I receive a defective case back, and has this occurred with other units ? If so, can you send me a replacement back ?

It's not needed in the production models. In fact it was never needed in the beta units either :)

Thanks ! So do you just press RESET only when doing a firmware update ?

If you're using a Windows machine then you don't even need it then. It's handy for, well... resetting the DM42 in the event that it hangs in such a way that the firmware can't detect the problem and give you a software means to reset.

Users of POSIX-compliant O/Ses such as MacOSX and Linux, which use dfu-util, do have to use the reset button.

Great ! Sounds like firmware updates on the DM42 are a lot easier and more reliable than on the DM15L.

While we are at it: what was the PRGM hole for?
WP43 SN00000, 34S, and 31S for obvious reasons; HP-35, 45, ..., 35S, 15CE, DM16L S/N# 00093, DM42β SN:00041

I'm not 100% certain of this so I'm happy to be corrected, but I believe that the purpose of that button was to throw the CPU into a mode whereby you could replace the bootloader (as opposed to use the bootloader to update the firmware).
