DM42 hung during img copy, USB file system erased

Post by cappy »

I was trying to copy 3 bmp files to the OFFIMG directory, from a Windows 7 64-Bit laptop.
The copy process tovery long, so I knew something was wrong. FIle Explorer just hung, I couldn't kill the process easily.
The DM42 still showed the "USB WriteMode" screen, press EXIT key to end was still visible.

Pressing EXIT did nothing. The calc is hung.

I've pressed the reset button, and now have control of the DM42 again, but the USB filesystem is wiped out.
Fortunately, I made a copy of all of those files before I did anything else.

I'm just not sure of the procedure to recreate the USB filesystem.

If you see ever the image below, that must be the default in flash,
and is displayed when your filesystem gets wiped out.

The dozing owl IS the default image until you've loaded something different.

Yes, but without a file system, other images can’t be loaded.
The other images were the, until an image copy operation hung, and wiped out everything.

Shift SETUP > System > Format FAT Disk

Thanks, I found it in the manual.
I’m surprised that the file system is so easily destroyed, especially when copying an offing.

The same thing happened to me and it was the first time I plugged it in, I was removing a few of the offimg's I didn't like, and it hung.

Now my help menu is gone, I've recreated the filesystem, but it only puts two directories, where can I get the help file, and what is the directory structure that I put it into?

Also make sure you're running the latest firmware (V3.4a). A fix was put into V3.4 to eliminate these spurious crashes and gain a bit of execution speed, and V3.4a was released almost immediately afterwards to correct a bug that had crept in making it impossible to alter the mute setting.

I think the hang was due to my USB hub having a loose connection.
I have the 3.4a FW now.
