Dm42: how to access direct alpha

Post by Testing-42 »

Maybe I am searching for the wrong terms, but how do I access the letters next to the keys?
On the forums I only found that it is called direct alpha input and that there is a lot of hassle about it, but no instructions.

Agreed, it's not immediately obvious, which is why some documentation is being built.

When in alpha mode, press [SHIFT] then [UP] or [DOWN]. You will see an annunciator at the top of the screen cycle through:
  • [ ]
  • [a]
  • [A]
When "[ ]" is visible, original HP-42S input is active.

When "[a]" (or "[A]") is visible, you get the lower (or upper) case letters directly on the keypad.
There are only 10 kinds of people in the world: those who understand binary and those who do not.
