There are 2 cases, and one from wawachief after the answer from Michael.
User wawachief wrote (among other details, he testet) "The problem seems to come from the DMCP part because I compiled the Hello world program." His story sends a new light to this error!
I could not find an answer to this case.
Before migrating to the new software/firmware model this behavior should be investigated.

You can upgrade to the new firmware. If you encounter the problem, you can downgrade back to 3.5. It won't brick your unit. That's what I did. Chances are you won't have any problem because it seems to be quite a rare phenomen. And I guess the more feedback SM gets, the faster the issue will be fixed.

I sent back my unit last week and received a new working one. Michael told me they want to investigate, so let's see if they manage to find more information on this bug with my broken unit in hands.

There is a new DMCP version 3.8 out there. I tried it full of hope, but I still got the same error when I plugged the USB cable, so the problem is not solved with this version :(
Back to 3.5 ...

I tried to upgrade to DMCP_3.9. I still have the same issue when I plug the DM42 to USB power. I guess I'm still stuck to 3.5.

Hi,
Just to provide more info about this problem. I tried to upgrade to firmware 3.9 today and get the 4 lines of error messages in the pictures previously uploaded to this thread. The lines are observed whenever I connect the USB, even if I'm in normal operating mode and I just want to power the calculator.

Then I opened the calculator and tried a dfu programming after pressing PGM and RESET and then connect the USB.
the dfu seems to detect the calculator correctly.
Then I try to dfu firmware 3.9 and I get:

dfu-util: Invalid DFU suffix signature
dfu-util: A valid DFU suffix will be required in a future dfu-util release!!!
Deducing device DFU version from functional descriptor length

dfu-util: Last page at 0x008f1c73 is not writeable

I'm using a Mac computer and I have this done before which old versions of the firmware. So I know it has worked before.

Could it be that some sectors of the flash are broken?

Hi again,

Just one more word on this, since I do not think it is a hardware issue but a software one.

I've been able to downgrade to version 3.5 of the firmware by using the PMG + RESET buttons and dfu. Once in version 3.5 I've been able to upgrade to the latest version of the firmware (DM 3.9.1, Free42 2.0.21 and Floating point V2.0) using again the dfu tool. The calculator works fine and the upgrade was smooth.

I still can't connect the USB even to power the calculator during normal operation, the error is (slightly) different as that with version 3.7 of the firmware. I attach a picture.

Hope this helps to solve the issue.

Jose

After upgrading to some version, v3.7 I think,
my Beta DM42 would crash when plugging into USB.
It would crash with an error message and freeze until
I used the reset pin on back to restart.

It now works fine since I upgraded to fw v3.11

Hi,
Thanks for the hint. I confirm that this error has also disappeared from my calculator after upgrading to version 3.11.

I admit I'm late to the party, but that error occurred to me just a few days ago. I turned my DM42 on, called SETUP, 1, 3, was asked to connect USB, and then

DM42 freezes until I disconnect - then it resets clearing memory.

Same happens when I call SETUP, 4, 2, 4, 6, and connect USB then.

What shall I do??
