"multiply" sign is displayed differently...

Hi,
The following is done with the HP42S-font set for the display
[Yellow]
ENTER (Alpha)
[Yellow]
SST (to set [A])
[Yellow]
x (multiply)
...and you will get an "*" (star) in the Alpa register on top of the LCD.
Doing
[Yellow]
ENTER (Alpha)
[Yellow]
SST (to set [ ])
[Yellow]
x (multiply)
...you will get an "x" (the multiply sign as shown on the according key).
When using the "+" sign instead of the "x" sign instead I get the same character
in both cases.
...is this intentionally made that way or is this a glitch in The .... font handling....Matrix?
Cheers!
Meino
PS: What is the terminus technicus of the [Yellow}-key? "Shift"? "Func"? or even "FUNK" ?
